Splurge!
There goes the next few years worth of Christmas, birthday and anniversary presents :) Ryan and I have been drooling over getting a new camera - I nice camera. And on Friday night, it went on sale. We finally spent the money and did it. We are super excited and intent on not checking our credit card balance. Pictures to follow :)

Lazy Sundays
Last night I slept for 11 hours! I managed to wake up a the oh-so-late hour of 10:30 am! Since then, I've caught up on Glee and done absolutely nothing else. I could get used to this. Although, the bad part is that I was supposed to work today. That's not looking like it's going to happen...
Anyways, the point is: I love lazy days. In today's case, lazy Sundays. I think it's super important that we all take a day once in a while to do nothing and worry about nothing. It's something I don't do enough.

Kauai
I'm finally getting around to posting some pictures of our trip to Kauai. We had a fantastic time (of course)! It rained almost every day, with the exception of the day before we left. There was a storm so bad that roads were closed, boat tours were closed, and they weren't even renting out surfboards and snorkel gear for a few days afterward. However, we were in Kauai and not at home, and it was fabulous. I think I slept 10 - 12 hours every night, re-discovered my love for the Kauai Marriott, and was able to get away from work for a week. Here are some pictures - in not any great order. One thing I strongly dislike about blogger is the manner in which it uploads pictures. You can't move them easily, and they come up at the top in reverse order. So I don't even try anymore. Above is a picture Rollins surfing.
At one of the waterfalls near Lihue - I wasn't the happiest with Ryan sitting on the ledge. He lived though.
The Kauai Marriott has an amazing pool! I want one. That was the first thing Ryan noticed. He went to find the bathroom as I checked in, and came back saying "Did you SEE the pool?!" Notice the milkshake brown water of the ocean next to the blue pool...this was an unfortunate effect of having a river mouth flow into Kalapaki beach and having a really bad storm. It's a wonder they weren't renting out gear or lessons!
The Kauai Marriott also has lush gardens inside. There is a koi pond and all this beautiful vegetation. Some birds too!
At night, the resort was lined with tiki torches. They were so neat and beautiful!
We went zip lining! All of us loved it. Surprisingly, it felt really, really secure. There were 7 lines that we went down. The first was a "bunny line" - it was only 50 ft tall. The second was the tallest and the longest - 250 ft tall by something like 450 yards. We had to run and cannonball off the line, so that we wouldn't get stuck in the middle. I was a little nervous about the cannonball part, and subsequently held myself up on the line the entire way. Without realizing it. I thought - "Boy! Zip lining sure is hard on your arms!" I asked the guy who caught us, Pinohu, about that, and he said "Ummm...no. You're supposed to lean back and not hold yourself up! Relax." Oops. Our other guide, Misty, had said to the Menda's during all this - "That girl is scary strong. She is holding herself up the entire way. " Ryan told her, "Tell me about it." LOL. Yoga and surfing! I was able to relax on the other 5 lines though - and wouldn't ya know it: you don't use your arms!
It was pouring. We were told that this particular region gets the most amount of rainfall per year in anywhere in the world. One thing about me, when I travel, is that a poor short term memory + no notes = I can't tell you where we were or what the statistic was. You'll notice that throughout this post! Anyhow, it was about 15 minutes away from Lihue, and they filmed Tropic Thunder there (leave it to me to remember the entertainment part)

Sicko's
We leave for Kauai in three days! And we're both sick right now. I'm trying to fight off a cold (I keep pumping Airborne like my life depended on it) and I had some weird stomach bug over the weekend. Ryan had a fever last night and stayed home today. What's a couple to do? Oh well, I think I'd rather be sick on the beach in Hawaii than sick in my cubicle at work. Right?! I officially apologize to whoever we sit by on the airplane - I'll bring some Airborne for you!

Anniversary!
Time flies! I can't believe it's been a year, today, since we got married. We're keeping it low key, for a couple reasons. 1) The Hawaii trip coming up this week, 2) Ryan doesn't count this as our anniversary - he's said for years that there is no way he can remember another date, and no matter what - he could only retain Jan 30 as our anniversary. That being said, he's already said "Happy Anniversary" to me today, so I think I might have successfully squeezed in two anniversaries a year!
So - the only plans today: I'm going to go meet the lady who made our wedding cake, and get a mini-cake from her. I'm so excited about that! Best.cake.ever! Then maybe dinner. Knowing us, some place like the Olive Garden.
On a funny note, some people might know that I got sick on our wedding night. About 20 minutes after the wedding ended, I got this horrible, horrible cold. My throat started hurting and I could breathe. Says a lot about what adrenaline can do for your body! Once I relaxed, I got sick. And it actually lasted a week. Anyways, the point and the funny part is that last night, I think I caught some sort of bug. My stomach is not in good shape and I was light-headed. I told Ryan last night that I better not be sick every Nov 7 for the rest of my life!

Little Halloween Bambini
I'm not ready for kiddies yet. I do want them though. Ryan and I will start in a couple years. However, I'm slowly getting over the insane panic attacks when the thought of having a kid enters my mind.
This slow progression started happening since I turned 28 in September. What is that about? Coincidence? Or is it the beginning of my biological clock?
My cousin had her first baby last Thursday and I was so insanely happy for her. I've been excited for my other cousins' babies, but I couldn't help thinking that maybe this seemed to hit closer to home, since I know the next two years will fly by and it will be me.
Anyways, what made me think about writing this? All those amazingly cute little Halloween bambini in their bumble bee or princess or insert-adorableness-here costumes. Throughout October, all I could think when Halloween came up was that it sure will be fun to take my own kids around.
However, the time frame still sticks...a few years from now, please. Although I'm finally not panicky, I'm not quite there yet. But at least I know that in two years, I think I'll be ready to have that little tyke.

I'm a pretty low key (aka boring) girl. When people ask what's new, I can't think of anything to tell them. I usually say, "Oh. Work. Work out. Sleep" or "All work and not much play." The highlight of my week is usually yoga.
Every time I hang out with friends, it reminds me of how dull I don't have to be. It is SO much fun to see friends - between laughing at albums from high school after our 10 year reunion to going to a surprise birthday for our friend who turned 30. How amazing is it when you hang out with people that you truly feel comfortable with? We always say that when you just pick up where you left off after however long, you know you have a great friendship. It puts in perspective who your good friends are and how excited you get about doing the most simple things with them. For instance, I cannot wait to drag Amy Nash to my Saturday morning yoga class! (Amy, did you know?! LOL)
It also makes me miss my friend Becky that moved to New Zealand a few years ago - we lived two doors away from one another and just used to keep each other company. Ryan was working insane hours at that point. It didn't matter if we were watching some teen movie or making dinner. We just were chilling and it was so easy.
To all my friends - whether I see you a lot, not so much, or I keep up with you through blogs or Facebook - thank you for being my friend. And I hereby vow to see you more!

Stood Up
Christy and I call ourselves "serial monogamists." We didn't date around in high school - to this day I've never gone on a "date" to meet a guy. So, needless to say, I've never had the pleasure of being stood up!
Tonight I was supposed to meet a work acquaintance from another company we utilize to fill temp positions. She has repeatedly invited me to go out to Campbell with her - for months. I felt bad that I'm so flaky and non-committal (it's so hard for me to do things! I don't even see my good friends nearly enough). Finally, I suggested we go to coffee since it's getting colder. We planned for tonight. All day, I've been so blah about going. She's a very nice girl, and it's nice that someone is interested in being my friend, but I'm lazy. It's pretty bad when consider for a millisecond on flaking.
Anyways - I went, and she stood me up! LOL. I'm not mad, but it's pretty ironic and it's pretty funny. We didn't touch base today to confirm, so I'm guessing she forgot?? :) I waited for 20 minutes before leaving. All I could think during that amount of time was, "OMG. This is what it's like to have a boy stand you up on a date!" Looking at the door every time it opens. Trying to make yourself look busy (in my case, reading a crappy small newspaper with atrocious journalistic prose. I can say that as a Journalism major). Trying not to drink too much of your drink because otherwise, how can you take casual sips every few minutes to not look so pathetic? Wishing you had an iPhone to go on the internet.
The result is this: boy am I glad that Ryan and I started dating at the young age of 17. I could not possibly imagine going through this when you actually really want to meet up with the person! I'm left wondering...can I officially no longer feel bad when I don't take her up on her offers? :)

Warning: Shark Sighting at Celebrity Surf Beach
Crazy shark photo!! Remind me not to surf in Santa Monica in the fall! One thing that annoyed me about this article - it mentioned that celebrities "hang ten" there. Has anyone tried to hang ten or even hang 5? It's not easy...I will probably never be able to do it. It's when all ten toes are hanging off the nose of the board (or one foot for hang 5). I guarantee you that there is maybe one or two celebrities that can actually do it...but it's a completely inaccurate way to say that someone is "surfing." Furthermore, it's something that is only accomplished on a longboard. There is my elitist rant. Here is a depiction of hanging ten, followed by the article:

Today was a good day...
I'm channeling my inner early 90's Ice Cube, for those of you who remember the song. Anyways, today was a GOOD...no. A GREAT day! We've been so poor because Ryan was refused an extension on unemployment back in March. They said he didn't make what he stated in the last two years. Looooong story short - his old company had the wrong SSN on his W2. He finally got it sorted out - and today, we received 6 months of retroactive paychecks from the EDD in the mail! Whoo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vegas
My really good friend from college, Evann, got married in Vegas over Labor Day weekend. Can you believe it was my first time in Vegas? Well, turns out I'm a bit of a Vegas dud. Don't get me wrong - I actually liked Vegas. However, I found out that I am a terrible gambler. I don't get a high from it - I get very pissed off when I lose 5 cents at the penny machine. I don't want to do anything more than the slots, and I do not want to spend more than $20. However, I would like to win $100. Eh. Didn't happen!
It also turns out that flying and then walking around Vegas EVERYWHERE makes me a tired girl. I fell asleep our first night at 10 pm. Poor Ryan. He went downstairs and did the slots for a couple hours.
We stayed at the MGM Grand. Which was nice enough. Until the 1st morning, where we found a rat pellet in our bed, in the sheets. Yup. Or a mouse pellet - whichever. OMFG. We got a room change and a free breakfast. And they got a guarantee that Ryan and I will never, ever stay at the MGM Grand again.
Onto the fun stuff - I loved the Bellagio and the Venetian!! I actually liked a lot of the new hotels with all their amazingly expensive showy stuff. Recession? What recession? I know where all the money went...Vegas! The Bellagio has this cool garden area, which you can see below. Lots of pretty lights! Ryan stayed at the Venetian the first time he went there, and he loved it. I can't wait to stay there next time!
No shows - but next time I want to see Cirque de Soleil's "O." I heard it was amazing! We just didn't have the money this time around. And, miracle of all miracles, I was able to ignore those obnoxious little cards without letting it get to me. That was a huge step for me!

Amber's wedding!
Ryan's friend from college, Amber, got married in August. It was my first lesbian wedding! We enjoyed ourselves - it was fantastic to see Ryan's college buddies and their significant others! They were all at our wedding, but we didn't really get to hang out with them.
Hobbes
We got another kitty named Hobbes. He's super cute, super affectionate, super big and pretty well mannered. He's also got this meow that somehow sounds remarkably like a baby crying, which I'm just not ready for! The hardest part has been getting him and Reyna. Let's just say that it's been a long transition, that is still happening. Interesting, considering the fact that we got another kitty quicker than we were thinking, because she was lonely. And now she turns into hissy bitch, and he will run after her. Sigh. Here are some more pics. As you can tell, he has a bit of ADD. The only time we can snap pics of him not moving is when he's asleep. I threw some new ones of Reyna in there as well.
