Hearts Officially Broken

Kistu lost his fatal, incurable battle at the end of July. It was by far the hardest thing we've ever had to do. It really tore our emotions to shreds. We were with him the whole time. Two months later (I'm pitifully late on this post) and I'm still get choked up or cry when thinking about him. He may have been the best cat ever.On his last evening with us, we took advantage of our time with him. We only have indoor cats, and Kitsu was always good about not needing to go outside. But he always sat by the sliding glass door and looked out. So we brought him outside. It was quite possibly the saddest thing ever. I don't think that cats cry from emotions. But, I swear to God, we were trying to coax him outside (he was like "Really? This isn't a trick, I'm never allowed outside!") and once he finally stepped outside, he had this huge giant tear form from his eye. Oh my goodness. Ryan and I couldn't tell what it was - the sun was setting - was it in his eyes? Or is it possible for a cat to cry? Either way, that was SO hard. He enjoyed himself out there. Here are some pics.

Meow
Every morning, for the last two weeks, my little girl kitty Reyna has been roaming the house looking for Kitsune. Crying and crying and crying. HEARTBREAKING. Hell, I feel like doing that half the time too. As Ryan puts it, "Reyna's stuck on repeat" and/or "she's broken again." Anyways, she's lonely. She wants her buddy back. And although I'm not quite ready for it, we need to get her a companion.
So, we have about one more week until the threat of lingering disease is gone (they say it takes 2 -3 weeks for the disease to completely die away in your house). We went to a volunteer kitty adoption center today. We found a real sweetie, and he's real big too. Just the kind we want. We filled out application paperwork, and now we have about a week to figure out if we want to adopt him. This is so hard. I know a little guy will help my heart, and I will love him to pieces. But I miss my little Kitsune and a tiny part of me (in the back of my head) is still dellusionally trying to figure out how to go back in time and get him back (before he got sick...I'd figure out a way to make it not happen). Which, of course, is impossible.
I'm finding I have a real soft spot for the orange and white kitty personalities. Here's a link to our potential new family member - his name is Clarence.

Something Funny
To say my blog's been a downer the past week would be an understatement. I thought I'd post a funny joke I read today :)
A woman went up to the bar in a quiet rural pub. She gestured alluringly to the bartender who approached her immediately. She seductively signaled that he should bring his face closer to hers. As he did, she gently caressed his full beard.
"Are you the manager?" she asked, softly stroking his face with both hands.
"Actually, no," he replied. "Can you get him for me? I need to speak to him," she said, running her hands beyond his beard and into his hair.
"I'm afraid I can't," breathed the bartender. "Is there anything I can do?"
"Yes. I need you to give him a message," she continued, running her forefinger across the bartender's lips.
"What should I tell him?" the bartender managed to say.
"Tell him," she whispered, "There's no toilet paper, hand soap, or paper towels in the ladies room."

Update
Kitsune most likely has FIP, which is a fatal, incurable disease. We will give him antibiotics and steroids to treat the symptoms until his immune system can no longer take it. It could be weeks or months. The vet has seen cats last up to a year. But there is no hope. The cruel thing is that it normally happens with kittens or old cats, but very rarely with a 4 yr old cat. He most likely contacted it as a kitten and it has laid dormant since then. There is no definite way to test for FIP; so it's just all signs point toward it and there you go.
Kitsune is probably the neatest, most unique cat in the world.
Yup, you did just hear the sound of our hearts breaking.

Sick Kitty

My beloved cat, Kitsune (fox in Japanese), is sick :(
We took him to the vet today, and he has a crapload of fluid surrounding his lungs. They are going to remove it tomorrow. Then it will take about a day to get the results back and get a good idea of what is wrong. The vet said that no matter what the cause was, it's not a good thing. Which is devastating. It could be bacterial, it could be an enlarged heart, liver problems, or a tumor. We couldn't even see the poor little guy's heart in the x-ray.
I am not handling this well...please think good, positive thoughts for our kitty.
